Abstract:
The Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI) is critical to urban American Indian and Alaska Native communities who experience a higher prevalence of diabetes and a greater diabetes mortality rate than the general U.S. population living in those areas. Since the SDPI program began in 1997, urban Indian Health Programs (UIHPs) have reveal some improvements in key diabetes care outcome for AI/ANs at these urban facilities over a 10 year period, from 2001-2011.
