National Harm Reduction Coalition Native Harm Reduction Toolkit

Authors: National Harm Reduction Coalition

Publication Year: (n.d.)

Keywords: Culturally Informed Care, Mental and Behavioral Health, Substance Use, Suicide and Suicide Prevention, Traditional Healing

Abstract:
This toolkit emerged through collaboration between the National Harm Reduction Coalition (NHRC) & Native Harm Reduction Consultant Arlene Brown, member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe. In 2020, NHRC conducted interviews with California Native service providers, people who use drugs, and people in recovery to better understand the harm reduction training and education needs of Tribal and Urban Native communities. Two trainings were created by Arlene: Foundations of Native Harm Reduction, and Dismantling the Stigma of Substance Use and Harm Reduction Among Our Native People. Arlene later imagined this toolkit, which incorporates 3 trainings, along with other resources. To learn more about this toolkit, visit https://harmreduction.org/native-toolkit/#who.
