Abstract: The Food Sovereignty Toolkit is an educational resource developed by the California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center to support Indigenous food sovereignty, cultural preservation, and health promotion among California Native communities. The toolkit explores the historical impacts of colonization on traditional food systems, highlights the relationship between traditional diets and chronic disease prevention, and emphasizes the importance of restoring access to traditional foods and ancestral lands. It includes information on food sovereignty, seasonal harvesting, traditional plant identification, culturally significant foods and beverages, and practical guidance for incorporating traditional ecological knowledge into community wellness efforts. The toolkit is intended for Tribal communities, educators, public health practitioners, and organizations seeking culturally grounded resources to promote Indigenous health, nutrition, and food security.
