Introduction
The Indian Health Care Improvement Act, P.L. 94-437 (IHCIA) was first enacted in 1976, to address long-standing deficiencies in Indian Health Care; to increase the number of health care professionals serving Indian Communities; to authorize services to Urban Indian populations; to rectify health facility problems; and to provide access to Indian to other federal health resources such as Medicaid and Medicare.
